Bristol Mill

Commissioned by two contemporary artists, and partly funded under the Scottish Borders LEADER II programme, this study seeked to assess the viability of converting Bristol Mill, a disused former spinning mill, into flexible term rented studio accommodation for professional artists, designers, photographers and film makers.

Together with a measured and preliminary condition survey, a brief for the conversion of the buildings was developed. The scheme proposed was costed, and a suggested programme described. In developing the scheme the aim was to satisfy the requirements of the brief - for a range of sizes and types of studio, shared facilities and ancillary accommodation whilst enhancing the architectural quality of the mill buildings.
